Grocery Shopping With The Husband

Parker was home a little bit last week during the day (this little wife was not complaining one bit!), so I asked if he wanted to do the weekly grocery shopping with me. Typically he passes without hesitation, but he didn't have anything else going on so he agreed to come. I am one of those people who actually enjoys going to the grocery store, and I think grocery shopping with Parker is so fun! Does anyone else enjoy grocery shopping with their significant other?

Our bank accounts probably hate it when Parker comes to the grocery store because it always costs more, without fail. Parker likes to throw random things in the cart, and I always laugh at what he decides we need. Somehow it's cute when someone who does zero of the cooking decides we need certain foods. As we were walking through the store, Parker told me we needed to diversify our pantry and mix things up. And that is exactly what he proceeded to do. Here are the items Parker threw in the cart. Some are normal, some...not so much.

Neither of us drink sodas, so the Mexican soda he decided we needed to try was an odd choice. The spam is something he ate when he was younger and thought I needed to taste, and the mackerel filets...there are no words. I didn't even know such a thing existed. Parker actually really liked it, and I can do without ever having another bite again. Think salty canned tuna. Somehow I doubt you are jumping out of your seat to go buy your own little box of canned mackerel filets.

Just a normal day in the Phelps household, enjoying canned mackerel

So that was an experience. I laughed so much on this trip. It really is the little things sometimes, and this was a fun way to spend time together during the week.

...and there he goes, having spent double what we usually do on the most random foods we've ever purchased. If that's not a lunch break well spent, I don't know what is!

  1. I do NOT like shopping with Rob (the fiance).. he sticks random things in the cart which angers me because I know exactly what we need, what we have, etc-- he is super sneaky at the check out line too. Literally, if he comes, he gets a "pep talk" before going inside.

  2. The same thing happens to me when Shaun tags along to the grocery store. We always end up with a bunch of random things that we don't really need including canned fish lol.

  3. Haha, I love grocery shopping with my fiance. It will either go one of two ways... he will overflow the cart with ridiculous snacks or he will try and prevent me from overflowing the cart with cupcakes, cookies, muffins, and other baked goodies!

You guys look like you have so much fun together! I love it!

  4. Tom and I won't go grocery shopping without each other. He actually gets really sad when I stop by on my way home to pick up something quick. We really do enjoy our weekly trips though. It's a nice way to spend time together, talking and planning our meals.

  5. When Justin and I go to the store it's the total opposite:) I'm the one throwing random stuff in the cart! Nothing like the canned mackerel though;)

  6. Mexican soda is delicious! What did y'all think? I think I'm the one who throws the random stuff in the cart in my family... I guess I need to look for a man who sticks to the list so we balance each other out!

  7. This is hilarious! I am the same as your husband, haha. I enjoy cooking, but Dan REALLY loves to, so he does most of the cooking around here... and he also loves finding great deals, so he usually shops with me or leaves me a very specific list! I would be the one buying all the odd things to try, lol.

  8. What the heck is canned mackerel?! Sounds fishy and not to my liking. However, I do enjoy shopping with Ryan because he is a stickler about sticking to the list. But I'm with Sir Phelps, sometimes you just gotta diversify your pantry!

  9. I didnt even know there was Mexican soda...that actually feels weird to type lol. And this whole canned business, I now dont like fish even more than I did before. I love grocery shopping or maybe i jus like going to the grocery store. My mom does most of the shopping since we live with my parents still. But when I have something I need, I actually hate having Brian go with me. If I have to go in for just like 1 thing I tell him to wait in the car. I can speed walk and get out faster. If he comes in forget it. Sometimes we like to go get the salad or wing bar they have at the store. If we are going to get dinner, you might as well just come back to pick him up. He cant seem to decide what he wants before we get there. I've stood there, no lie, for an hour while he walked around.

  10. This is such a cute post...he looks just oh so happy to be shopping for groceries! Even though they were not on the list or needed lol. I always love going with the hubs - he pushes the cart while I pile in food. We try different things, but I try to stay away often so we dont get side-tracked and end up with a cart full of things we dont really need lol.

  12. I absolutely love grocery shopping -- but not with my husband! He runs the bill up, too. And its always for silly things. And things he knows I wouldn't buy otherwise. And definitely don't need in the house. Plus, he tries to rush me!! If he wants to help, I always just suggest he stay at home ... with both of the kids!!

  13. I love grocery shopping with the Husband. Even if he just follows me around with the cart while I cross off the items on the list. He's pretty good about not adding unnecessary items thankfully!

  14. Haha. This is so funny! I've actually banned Nate from grocery shopping with me because he typically doubles our bill - usually with junk food. ;-)

  18. I love grocery shopping! I always have way too much fun with it, and I buy way too much. My boyfriend is a lot more health and cost conscious thankfully, or we would be screwed ha ha!

  19. I totally love any kind of shopping but Grocery shopping is in the top three. LOL. I absolutely love going with my hubby even though I am not sure he enjoys going with me. I am a little too thorough when I shop so it turns into a several hour long trip every time. Oh and when we go together we spend so much more, I am a stick to my list type of girl. My hubby likes to buy whatever he sees haha!

  20. Chris does the same thing! He always throws random things in the cart that I end up throwing out after weeks of him forgetting he ever bought it. Spam was on his list! I prefer to shop alone, and Chris prefers to not go, so it is a win win!

  21. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!! I always spent more when your dad was with me. He'd throw things in the basket, and I wouldn't see them until we were checking out. Remember the Pop Tarts???
