My Dog Has Resorted To Punishing Herself

When Jenny does something she isn't supposed to, she gets in trouble. Trouble for her means us yelling "NO" in a stern, loud voice and crouching over her. Different strokes for different folks, but this works like a charm for her. I really think she hates disappointing us, so just showing her we are upset usually makes her pretty remorseful.

So funny story...

A couple of weeks ago, I caught Jenny laying on our bed. She's allowed on our bed, but by invitation only. She's not allowed to jump up anytime she wants, and that is exactly what she did. As soon as I walked in and started to get upset with her, she immediately jumped off the bed, ran to my office, and sat facing the wall in shame. What? Was she actually punishing herself? She sat like this for a few minutes, and it was quite possibly the cutest thing ever. I was dying.

I walked over to get her after I decided her self-inflicted time out should be over, she gave me kisses, and she went about her pupper day. I guess she decided she'd rather punish herself than get yelled at. It was the most precious thing, but I sincerely hope it doesn't become a trend. This brings the term pathetic to a whole new level!

  1. haha, so cute! Winnie hates getting in trouble, sometimes if you just say her name she'll go straight into her crate. We NEVER put her in there for punishment. It's so pathetic its cute and then you can't be mad... maybe that's their plan ;)

  2. This is hilarious and adorable. I swear our dog knows when he's done something wrong too - won't look us in the eye. It's so funny! You have such a cute pup!

  3. This is too funny...and makes me say "poor puppy" at the same time! Haha One of our dogs does something very similar! Funny how they know when they're doing something they shouldn't be

  4. Oh my goodness.. poor girl! That is seriously cute. This is what I call "nose to wall"-- when I was a nanny, that's what I would do for "punishment"-- make the kids put their nose to the wall for whatever amount of time. Give Jenny some treats today! Just for being cute!

  6. So cute! Mine kind of does the same thing. Sometimes I know she's done something wrong because she gives way to her Chihuahua half and crawls on the floor with her tail between her legs. Then I have to walk around my apartment to find what she did! Hahaha Dogs are the best!

  18. awe that is so cute!!
    They are so smart!
One time, when my dog was a puppy, took a sandal and chewed on it. When I caught him, he went straight in front of his house waiting for me to open his cage door so he could go in. He went in and stood there without a peep.
They know when they do things wrong lol

  27. That is seriously the cutest thing ever!! I couldn't help but smile :D
We are the same way when we punish our dogs - we tell them no and that they were bad in a stern voice. Luckily they too punish themselves. If they get into something or did something they shouldn't they tuck their tail and sulk and won't look at us.

  29. Aww, Jenny's too cute! It's nice to see that she has a sense of responsibility to punish herself when she thinks she did something wrong. How is she now? Does she continue to display such actions when scolded? Professional dog camps can help you train your dog and be obedient through their sessions; you should try one soon! :)
