Today marks a milestone for the Phelps trio! Three years ago today, we adopted the Jenny pup into our family. She made our duo a trio, and we have never looked back. We were still in college and had been visiting a rescue organization on Saturdays to pet the pups. We so badly wanted a dog of our own, but we knew we should wait until we were married that summer. That all went out the window when we walked in one Saturday and saw Jenny looking back at us. I hate to say it was love at first sight because that's so cliche, but let's be cliche for a minute. It was love at first sight. After spending a few minutes getting to know her and walking her around the parking lot, we quickly knew she was meant to be ours. You can read her full adoption story here.
We call Jenny our love child because we had her out of wedlock. I don't think either of our families were particularly fond of the idea of getting a dog before we got married, but come on, how can you say no to this face?
We adopted her at 6 months old, which means we got to miss a lot of the hard stuff. We so wish we could have seen what baby Jenny looked like, but we also never had to deal with the chewing or 4 AM potty breaks. Winning, really.
I hear people say this about children (the human kind), but I really can't remember what life was like before Jenny. She has brought us so much joy and shown us what unconditional love looks like. She's also taught us a thing or two about being selfless. Though I think she is the easiest dog on the planet, she is dependent on us and therefore a responsibility. She's the best kind of responsibility, though. Parker has a job where he can't always be around, but Jenny and I are best girlfriends and have the best time together. She's probably made me more antisocial because I have been known to spend an evening with her over hanging out with actual people. So maybe that's a con, but the Jen pup is a good time!
I can't believe we have had this baby for three years already. Words can't express how much we love her, but squeaker toys can, so someone has a trip to Petco in her future. We love you Jenny Lou!

Just for fun, here are a few throwbacks from the early days:

So precious!! Can you believe it's already been THREE YEARS?! Wow! I just love what bringing a dog into a marriage does - the love it brings and the loyalty that comes along with it when your spouse isn't around. Happy three years with Jenny!!
ReplyDeleteAwwwww!
ReplyDeleteAww! Love it! Three years goes by so quickly!
ReplyDeleteJenny is adorable! It probably helps so much having a dog when Parker isn't around. I keep telling my fiance that we need to get one because I wouldn't be as lonely when he is gone all the time. Dogs really are the best!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I saw something on Pinterest yesterday that reminded me of you and I need to show you, but I'm running late right now. Remind me later!

ReplyDeleteHappy 3 years! It is amazing how much joy a furbaby can bring. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty irresistible face. I love her little buns! We got Zoey this last September and it completely changed our hearts. I love that I'll have a little BFF when Nick starts getting deployed.
ReplyDeleteHappy 3 Years!!!! Are you going to celebrate?! I feel all your same sentiments. I cannot imagine my life without my dog. Doesn't it make you wonder how much you'll love a kid? I always think, "If I love my dog this much, how obsessed with my children, that we CREATED, will I be?!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! What a precious pup! Isn't it crazy to imagine life before the dog? Happy Dog-i-versary!
ReplyDeleteJenny is so cute! She is so lucky she has a home with you.
ReplyDeleteSo stinking cute!
ReplyDeleteHappy Adoption day Jenny!! Our's is coming up in April and we make sure to celebrate it every year!

ReplyDeleteOh how exciting! Happy three years of having Jenny! She is seriously so freaking cute :D We adopted our dog Bailey too, I think she was about a year old. But we saw her at the pound and just had to have her.
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary of getting Jenny!!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteAww, precious pup! I know you have been in a good home. Continue to enjoy it! Yeah, we have been through the puppy stage. You got her at a good age! Dogs are great!
ReplyDeleteSo adorable!! She's such a cute puppy dog!!!
ReplyDeleteAww, Jenny! Happy 3 years together.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, how precious :)
ReplyDeleteWe did get our pug brand new, but even if we adopted her I think we'd love her the same. I feel the same way-she's changed our lives for the better and I definitely have chosen hanging out with her over people. And there's something about furbabies when husbands are gone that just makes life ok.
ReplyDeleteHappy "birthday" Jenny!
