This Sunday was Mother's Day! Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably knew that thanks to either your calendar or the hundreds of posts over social media praising the mamas. Mother's Day just makes me thankful. My mom is such a blessing to me, and I am so glad God picked her to be mine. She was meant to be a mother, and I hope I am half the mom that she has been to me.
One of the interesting and cool things about growing up is seeing how my relationship with my mother has changed. When you're little, she's the person you most depend on. When you're a teenager, she's the one who's patient with you when you decide you you know everything. When you're getting married, she's your rock through the whole process and the only reason you don't throw in the towel and elope. And when you grow up and move far away to start a life of your own, she's always a phone call away to make all the hard stuff better. So thankful for that.
One of the neat parts of getting married is getting a mother-in-law. For some people, it's your worst nightmare. I hear so many horror stories of girls not getting along with their mother-in-law, and that makes me so sad. Nobody will ever replace your mom, and they aren't supposed to, but the woman I have the privilege of calling my mother-in-law is one of the sweetest and most loving people on the planet. I tell Parker's parents all the time that I hit the in-law jackpot, because I really did. They've always treated me like one of their own, and I feel very blessed to be a part of their family.
Yesterday was a little tough for Parker and me. Both of our families were having get-togethers with extended family, and we couldn't be there. I am thankful for modern technology and that we got to talk to both and see their faces, but I so wanted to give a big giant hug to both of them. I did get to spend Mother's Day with the one little life that depends on me and sticks her nose up my butt in lieu telling me she loves me. I am thankful to be a puppy mama to my favorite little furball!
I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day!
Aw! So much love packed into one post! I am so glad that you got to talk with them and see their faces even though you couldn't be there with them. Technology is awesome for that. =)
ReplyDeleteI just love when technology allows us to be a little more connected to loved ones when we're apart. I know they missed y'all but I'm sure they were all glad to at least see you digitally! And a true blessing to have such great in-laws!!

My fiance & I are 1000 miles away from our families so I share your pain! It's the worst being away from everyone especially when get togethers are taking place. I too hit the in-law jackpot! It's the best!
ReplyDeleteI love this so much, Chelsea! We're stationed pretty far from both our families, so I definitely missed both my mothers yesterday, as well. Thank goodness for Facetime and Skype :)
ReplyDeleteIt's hard being away from families during special days like this but I'm glad you got to be there in spirit!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more about mom in laws. So happy that I absolutely adore mine! Makes life so much easier!
ReplyDeleteIt's so true how your relationship changes over the years with your mom. Mine has only gotten sweeter! And I love my mother in law. I've heard many stories too. I thought that I would be another one to sari those things but I'm so grateful that I have such a great woman in my life who prays for us and is there for us. It was a great mothers day!
ReplyDeleteHaving wonderful in-laws is such a blessing! I am lucky that my future in-laws already treat me like a daughter! I'm glad that you were also warmly welcomed into Parker's family as well.
ReplyDeleteYour mom is beautiful! Now we know where you get your beauty from!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! Your mom is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteBoth your mom and mother in law are very beautiful. On the inside as well, by the sounds of it!
ReplyDeleteSorry you missed out on seeing your fam on mother's day.
