I love reading so much, and I can't imagine a world without enjoying it... but I know SO many people who don't like reading for fun, so you are absolutely not alone. Oftentimes at our house, we are both reading different books across the room from each other. I love that! I actually have a blog post with my top 15 favorite books of all time. Feel free to check it out:

Everyday a Friday- Joel Osteen
ReplyDeleteI love to read. The Hunger Games were good. You may like Divergent, Stolen by Lucy Christopher, Love, Aubrey it's a middle grade book but very good, Alone with God, Cool Beans, Choosing Gratitude by Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Jane Eyre, Respectable Sins. I could go on but I hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteCarry On, Warrior by Glennon Melton and Bread and Wine by Shauna Neiquist are two of my favorites that make me laugh, cry, and want to live life to the fullest! Plus they are broken up into short stories of sorts so they may be more manageable to jump back into reading! Highly recommend!
ReplyDeleteAnything by Francine Rivers! I read her book Redeeming Love on my honeymoon and it was soooo good. I also recommend her Mark of the Lion series!
ReplyDeleteYou should check out Goodreads! You can friend people and see what they've read, what they like, etc. I really love all of Tana French's mysteries, and Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl (plus her other 2 novels).
ReplyDeleteI am that girl that always has another book lined up ready to read, although I don't consider myself worldly. Just bookish! Here's a link to the books I've read on Goodreads. You can sort by rating too: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/3461238-alison?shelf=read
I wish the same thing, I just have such a hard time getting into reading anymore.
ReplyDeleteI used to read all the time and LOVED it! But with blogging, I spend the little free time I have catching up on my BlogLovin' feed. Following so many blogs leaves little time to read a real book. #bloggerproblems lol
ReplyDeleteGone Girl, Friday Night Knitting Club, Art of Racing in the Rain (sad, but so good!), Julie and Julia (better than the movie!), Alphabet Weekends (cute and easy to read), The Help (again, way better than the movie).
ReplyDeleteClearly I like books? I read a lot during Sully's deployments ha.
If you like Emily Giffin, try Sophie Kinsella, Jane Green, and Elin Hildebrand. Fabulous authors - light, funny books.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think that blog reading constitutes as reading! Take that, Parker Phelps! That being said, I'm like you and would love to spend more time reading and less time watching TV/browsing the social media interwebs. That being said, Emily Giffin is awesome. That's about all I got. Pathetic. Ohhhh I did read The Fault in Our Stars and it was pretty good. Yup, that's all I still got.
ReplyDeleteEverything I've learned about the medical, legal, justice department and government industries has been from Shonda Rhimes or Netflix shows and I'd say those producers probably hire a lot of college intern fact checkers. Just saying.
I LOVE to read, have since I was little when my Mom read to me every night. Now as an adult I still make time to read before going to bed...hmm one of my favorite books of all time is Redeeming Love:)
ReplyDeleteI read "avalon high" when i was 18 and hated reading and couldnt put it down. Its about high schoolers who are living the King Arthur tale. I also love the Nora Roberts books that are murder mysteries (not the super scary kind that keep you up at night--im a wimp) with a touch of romance. Blue Smoke, Angels Fall, Carolina Moon, and Rivers end are some good ones to start with! (If you want more just ask) also, theres "The Search" which has lots of doggies in it so i think you would like that one as well :-)

I agree Goodreads is a good place to start. Or just browsing the aisles of your local bookstore or library. I've come across great books/authors that way. Enjoy!
It's a quick, easy read but Save The Date by Mary Kay Andrews is a good one, I actually made myself read slow so I could enjoy it longer :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the previous comments and think that Sophie Kinsella, Jane Green, and Elin Hildebrand are all authors worth checking out. I also second the nod for goodreads...it is how i keep track of what I read and what should be on my bookshelf next. My current read is Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight and I can't put it down. Actually selected it for my newly established book club! http://everydaycelebrationsblog.blogspot.com/2014/12/celebrate-reading-book-club.html
ReplyDeleteYou know, I actually used to be a book blogger ;) I hate to plug it since I don't blog there anymore, but if you're looking for recommendations, I hope it will help you a little! www.iswimforoceans.org
ReplyDeleteI used to hate reading as well. I didn't pick up a single "pleasure" read for the first 3 years of college. But I found the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich and fell in love. So check out One For the Money. (PS it's also a movie, but read the book first!) Also Goodreads is a great website/app for finding great books that are similar to ones you know you already love.
ReplyDeleteSome of the most fun reads that I've read in the past few months are Before I Go to Sleep, The Rosie Project, Reconstructing Amelia, The Silent Wife, The Girl You Left Behind, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and I would second the other recommendations for the Dublin Murder Squad series. If you like classics (like Pride and Prejudice), books by Georgette Heyer, like The Grand Sophy and Fredrica are hilarious versions of similar novels.
ReplyDeleteI also second the idea of creating a Goodreads account. I am friends with a lot of other bloggers who read a lot, so I can always get ideas from them!
oh. i am a HUGE bookworm! right now i have 5 books to read before the end of january (book club <- see book worm haha)
ReplyDeletei have a list of some of the books i read on my goodreads account, and if you hover over the title you'll seem my "star" rating on waht i thought of them.
I LOVE denise hunter books (she is christian), and if you loved the hunger games - check out the premonition series by amy bartol (the first book is "inescapable"

I feel like you would like Jodi Picoult books. I feel like all of her books suck me in. I don't know how you feel about historical books, but if you are looking for a great trilogy, the North and South trilogy by John Jakes is hands down one of the best trilogies. It is based on the Civil War, and I love it! I would also suggest the Nikki Heat series by Richard Castle. It is a fictional author from the show Castle that they made into actual books. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny that you think readers are worldly-- I read a lot because I don't have a real life. I have a whole list of books I could recommend to you! I'm actually doing a new series on my blog every other Wednesday where I review books that I've been reading-- maybe you should check it out! :)
ReplyDeleteTry the O'Malley Chronicles by Dee Henderson or the Bright Empire Series by Stephen R. Lawhead.
ReplyDeleteyou HAVE to read gone girl, attachments, garden spells, the sugar queen and big little lies. those are my favorites
