Dating: It's Not Just For Dating

May 1st will always be a fun day to celebrate in our house. It's the day Parker and I officially started dating! The 2008 version of this day holds the life changing moment of becoming "Facebook official". #Ohdeargoodness

Once you get married, you don't typically celebrate the dating anniversary. This is true for us too, but we do always acknowledge this day and laugh at those two 19 year olds that each had a crush on the other. Parker and I have talked about what drew each of us to the other one, and if we are both being honest, we just thought the other was cute. Deep and meaningful, right? In all fairness, a lot of times you don't really know the person very well before you start dating. That's why you start dating. I fell in love with the person he is once I got to know him, but initially, I just thought he was nice to look at. :)

We dated about 2 years before getting engaged and another year after that before getting married. Those dating days were pure bliss. When you're in college with nothing to worry about but school and seeing your boyfriend, life is pretty darn sweet. Our date nights consisted of dinner and a movie from the start, and 8 years later, they still do. You just can't beat a yummy dinner out and a movie in our book!

After 8 years, if there is one thing we have learned, it's that dating isn't just for that dating phase. We still look forward to dates just as much as we used to, and we still crave that time away from everyday life to reconnect and focus on us.

8 years later, I am very glad we became Facebook official! Seriously, I'm a little embarrassed even writing that...

Here are a few throwbacks from those golden dating days. We loved this phase of life!

  1. We don't do anything for our dating anniversary either, but like you guys it's still a day that I always think about when it passes by. Love all of the photos of you guys-- so so cute :)

  3. Happy Dating Anniversary! Loved looking at your pics. You and Parker started dating in the year that Nick and I got married. We only started dating the year before you guys, tho ;)

  4. Aww y'all were so little! Andy and I both acknowledge various days in our relationship-- first day we started talking, first Skype date, first time meeting in person, becoming official, when he proposed, and pre-anniversary. I'm sure we won't acknowledge every little day every month (seriously, we do!) once we are married but it is fun to think about how quickly our lives have changed.

  7. Aw that's so sweet! Congrats on 8 years! My hubby and I acknowledge our dating anniversary, but mostly because he asked me to be his on valentines day! Kind of hard to ignore. I love date nights, though with having kids they are harder to come by. But we still even try to do at home dates so we don't break the bank! You guys should try the Cinebistro in Hampton, Dinner and a Movie in 1! it's one of our favorite places to go if you haven't tried it!

  8. Aww, you guys were and still are so cute! I always remember our dating anniversary--we hit 6 years in March. And we also still really try to prioritize dates and simply having fun together--it's so worth it!

  9. So fun! And happy dating anniversary! We don't really celebrate ours either but usually just have a nicer-than-normal dinner or something! It's totally still fun to reminisce! :)

  10. We always acknowledge it but we don't celebrate it anymore, especially since it is near our wedding anniversary. Yay for making it past the dating phase. Although, I am convinced that I will spend a lifetime getting to know more about Tom.
